About Di.
Di Gilbert is a full time professional mountaineering instructor (MIC) who calls the Spey Valley, Scotland, home.

Di’s work (and play) has taken her to places that she thought were impossible and lives by the motto of “the best climbers are the one’s having the most fun”.

Always plotting another trip, Di has been lucky enough to visit places she thought were impossible. From pulling on bolts in Spain, Italy and Sardinia, to getting scared on very long run outs in Yosemite. From putting up new routes in Bolivia, Greenland and Antarctica, to being in the wrong place at the wrong time in the Alps.

Since 1997, Di has been Expedition Leader to no fewer than 16 commercial expeditions around the globe. Di’s flying pigtails have been spotted in Africa, South America, India, Tibet, Nepal and Krgystan.

Di spent 5 Antarctic seasons based at Patriot Hills, initially as a Guide, and reached the dizzy heights of Field Operations Manager before finally hanging up her pink sorrel boots and carhatts for the final time in 2007.
Di successfully led The British North Ridge Mount Everest Expedition in June 2005. After standing on top of world she became an Ambasador for Aviemore and the Cairngorms and had Tea & Medals with the Lord Provost.

Di is also a Level 3 coach in both Inland Kayak and Open Canoe but the thought of sitting inside a boat now is more daunting than climbing an Alpine Grand Course. She is slowly ticking off Munro’s and Corbetts (sad I know) and feels that she has to complete the 7 Summits, having climbed Everest, Vinson and Kilimanjaro.

Di has a BA Degree in Outdoor Education but doesn’t quite know what to do with it.

Di is a full member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors.
